Amazon API Gateway

Written by Joel Reed on .

Amazon continues to maintain a tremendous pace in rolling out new AWS services.

It’s truly amazing. A recent example, announced in December, is API Gateway, which “handles all the tasks involved in accepting and processing up to hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls, including traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring, and API version management”.

For startups “testing the waters”, the acceleration in speed to market, ease of use for potential customers, and scalability of a solution using API Gateway should be a considerable benefit. Some drawbacks include giving away API usage and revenue information to Amazon, pricing model suitability, and cost as usage scales. Generally speaking, the rapid pace of new cloud services continues to impress me and bodes well for our customers. It’s an exciting time to be in software development!
